There’s a post on John Edwards ’08 Blog actually calling for accountability from telcoms that spied on Americans without legal authorization. I think the real heart of the issue as little to do with AT&T and more to with policy makers trying to ensure their collective asses are covered. The telcoms can, and almost certainly will argue that they were acting in good faith at the behest of government officials asking for their help in fighting threats to America. The issue then moves to who ordered it. Bush, Chenney and a host of others are then on the hook for knowingly ordering illegal activity and trying to cover it up. That, my friends, is the real issue.
At least one candidate supports the constitution.
