A quick and dirty summary is here. A more thoughtful look can be found here. My take is that there will be organized high priced resistance from the insurance industry because of the forced community rating provision. I think that’s an excellent idea from a policy wonk perspective, but less than likely from a political standpoint.

I agree that cost containment seems to have been left out of the formula. That seems quit strange since that’s the big issue in the world of health policy. Coverage, of course is one of the other issues. This seems to be oddly one-sided. More about this later…

Update: More on cost containment here. Ezra says that the imposition of community rating will change the market for health insurance in fundamental ways by shifting the insurers away from competing for healthy people and pricing the sick out of the market and towards actually competing on cost and efficiency. What a concept efficiency on health markets! Who would thought it possible? :)
