Residents of a small city in eastern Nebraska voted Monday to banish illegal immigrants from jobs and rental homes, defying an earlier decision by the city’s leaders and setting off what is all but certain to be a costly and closely watched legal challenge.

This is a bad idea. There are already laws on the book to deal with illegal workers. They should be going after the employers. If they’re aren’t any jobs, there won’t be many illegal immigrants. Building walls and fences and passing redundant local ordinances and state laws doesn’t add anything. If their so certain that local meat packing plants are hiring illegals, why not just call ICE?

    Largely unenforceable and meaningless, but it’s red meat for the Good Old Boys and makes the locals feel like they can stave off the Reconquista for a while longer. :-)
