My 18 month old Acer Expire (or is that Aspire?) 5520 appears to have died a gruesome death. It ran hot IMHO since I got it. I called the support number because of an issue with Bluetooth right after I got it and they said that it was normal to run a bit hot. How he knew it was normal I can’t begin to guess. It must have been the psychic powers of the Indian Swami who answered the phone. In any case he was wrong and the damned thing won’t boot at all, no post, no anything. It has a power light and the fan runs, but that’s it. There’s no output on the screen or via external monitor. I rescued my music and documents by popping the hard drive into SATA external enclosure and saving it to a network folder.
Now I have to contemplate a replacement for it. I want a Macbook but they’re so expensive. I could build a Windows desktop for myself, but we’ve gotten to like having the laptop in different places around the house. Maybe a Mac Mini, they’re a bit more cost effective. I’m still undecided…
