How do you celebrate Colubus Day?
- Build scale models of the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria and display them on the front lawn.
- Consider the implications of the injustice visited on native peoples by European conquerors.
- Spread smallpox to the natives.
- “Discover” a neighbors yard, plant a flag and claim it as yours.
One is obviously waaaay too much work. Two is just too depressing for a holiday. Three is appealing, but unworkable because smallpox is so darned hard to get these days. That leaves four, but I fear the local police might interfere with my neighborhood manifest destiny. I guess I’ll have to keep thinking.
