The NYTimes reports that vetting of Palin was bungled:
Disclosures on Palin Raise Questions on Vetting Process – NYTimes.com
Aides to Mr. McCain said they had a team on the ground in Alaska now to look more thoroughly into Ms. Palin’s background. A Republican with ties to the campaign said the team assigned to vet Ms. Palin in Alaska had not arrived there until Thursday, a day before Mr. McCain stunned the political world with his vice-presidential choice.
I don’t care about the situation with her daughter, I agree with others (including Obama) who have said it’s a private matter. More importantly, the same airtcle reports that she’s hired a private attorney to represent her in the ongoing abuse of power scandal involving her attempts to have her ex-brother-in-law fired. I think all of this shows it to be a hasty choice, probably designed as a sugar coating to help far right fundamentalists swallow the McCain candidacy. It’s an attempt to shore up sagging enthusiasm in the Republicam base, with zero thought to her readiness to govern. If she’s qualified based on her 20 month stint has governor of Alaska (pop. 670,053 in 2006), then first term wingnut mayors of cities of that size or greater should be every bit as qualified, right?
